Not a big deal, spambot or spamming user posted a bunch of messages about buying g0ld or something. They were quickly cleaned up. There are limits to the number of sequential posts you can make per IP address/username, I think that's what saved me from a major cleanup mess today. Had this been an open board I bet this could have been really bad. This reinforces the decision on making users log in to post messages I am afraid. The offending IP has been reported to the address space owners, not that it will do much. |

Just checked the logs and no search engine hit our site and indexed the spammer's text and links, so that's a good thing. Right now I have the board email me when someone posts a reply to a thread I am participating in, so that's how I caught it so quick seeing all the replies at once looked suspicious. At least they didn't gain anything, if Googlebot or other search engines would have indexed us with their links/verbage in the pages it would have raised their hit count in that search engine. That's the main reason why they do this. |
